HHSK&HHR
Government websites with open source Wagtail CMS for two water authorities: Hoogheemraadschap van Schieland (HHSK) and Krimpenerwaard & Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland (HHR).
Water boards with committed and expert people locally and regionally ensure safe dikes and sufficient clean water. They ensure clean water in ditches, rivers, lakes and streams. Among other things by cleaning sewage and. by keeping pollutants out of the water. Water boards protect the Netherlands against flooding by strengthening the dykes and making room for rivers.
Two websites in one tender
For both water authorities, the corporate website provides external information and news and is the entry point for digital services. The reach and use of the websites is high. It is important that they work well, can be properly managed and maintained.
Result
The tender concerned the implementation, hosting & support of a CMS for HHR and HHSK. We deliver the two future-proof websites which are easy to manage from the open source Wagtail CMS. The result is a total offer including all links, hosting, support in the form of an SLA, proactive advice and ongoing development.
Technique used
We were able to export the current content from the Plone CMS and read it into the Wagtail websites via an import application. The Wagtail CMS makes it easy for HHSK & HHR editors to manage content. It is the platform where all links come together, from Azure to vacancies from Connexys, from products and services to government links such as Collaborative Catalogues. The websites also offer extensive options for reading, responding and registering for vacancies, the entire process from start to finish. The website is fully WCAG compliant and meets the various government requirements.
Close cooperation
The deadline was clear, by 1 June 2021 at the latest, the new websites had to be live. The start was 5 March 2021 so we had a short lead time. The deadline was met together: by clearly prioritising and by making proactive agreements with both water boards, we secured going live. After going live, the cooperation continues in the form of various further development and improvements in both sites.
Own content requirements
Switching with the two water authorities was done separately. Both were given their own course and had completely separate content needs. We combined all this into one successful project. A lot of content is posted daily from the user-friendly and open source Wagtail CMS. The websites are actively developed based on requirements, regulations and market trends.
More Water authorities to Wagtail
The success of the joint approach for HHSK and HHR has left us wanting more. We are therefore proud to announce that we have now started working with two other water authorities: Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe and Waterschap Brabantse Delta. They too have opted for our Wagtail-based solution. This expands the ecosystem of water authorities that benefit from each other's innovations within a single powerful, open-source foundation.
